PROBLEM · LOW CLOSE RATE

Low close rate: you run the estimates, too few of them sign.

The visits happen. The proposals go out. Then most homeowners say they’ll think about it, and that’s the last you hear.

Who it’s for
Contractor owners seeing these signs in their pipeline
Where it comes from
  • Attention: Ads sell “free estimates,” which attracts people collecting bids rather than choosing a contractor.
  • Offer: The first time a homeowner hears a number is at the end of your visit, and it’s bigger than they pictured.
  • Sales: After the proposal, follow-up is one email or none. Homeowners who meant to sign get busy and drift.
  • System: Your team walks in cold, with a name and an address and nothing about budget, timeline, or what the homeowner saw.

SOUND FAMILIAR?

The signs you’re losing jobs here.

  • “We’re getting a few more quotes” after almost every visit.
  • Sticker shock at the kitchen table.
  • Proposals go out, and nobody follows up after the first email.
  • We lose on price to companies we know do worse work.
  • I drive an hour to find out they wanted a much smaller job.
THE DIAGNOSIS

Four places it breaks. Four fixes.

Attention × Offer × Sales × System. The problem usually lives in one part and shows up in another.

01Attention
The cause

Ads sell “free estimates,” which attracts people collecting bids rather than choosing a contractor.

The fix

Ads built around your work and what sets your jobs apart, so homeowners call you because of you, not because the quote is free.

Contractor Advertising
02Offer
The cause

The first time a homeowner hears a number is at the end of your visit, and it’s bigger than they pictured.

The fix

An estimate calculator that shows a realistic range before booking, so the price at the table isn’t a shock.

Estimate Calculators
03Sales
The cause

After the proposal, follow-up is one email or none. Homeowners who meant to sign get busy and drift.

The fix

A follow-up sequence after every unsigned estimate, plus outreach that brings older proposals back to life.

Lead Reactivation
04System
The cause

Your team walks in cold, with a name and an address and nothing about budget, timeline, or what the homeowner saw.

The fix

Qualifying answers and project details routed to your team before the visit, so the estimate starts where the homeowner already is.

WHAT WE’D FIX FIRST

Follow up on the estimates you’ve already run

The fastest gain is usually sitting in your sent proposals. We set up follow-up after every unsigned estimate and work back through older ones that never got an answer. It touches no ad spend. Then we move upstream and add price ranges and qualifying questions so the next round of visits starts warmer.

STRAIGHT ANSWERS

Questions we hear.

What’s a good close rate for contractors?

It depends on your trade, ticket size, and how qualified the visits are, so there’s no number worth copying. Track yours by source and by month, and improve on your own baseline.

Can you fix how my team sells?

We don’t run your estimates or sell for you. We control who shows up, what they know before you arrive, and the follow-up after you leave. Those are the parts we build and run.

Should we stop offering free estimates?

That’s your call. Qualifying budget and scope before you book does much of the same work without changing your policy.

Is it a close-rate problem or a lead problem?

Split your close rate by lead source. If referrals close well and ads don’t, the issue is who the ads bring and what they know before the visit. If everything closes poorly, look at pricing and follow-up.
